How long does an automatic file translation take?

Files are usually translated within a few minutes. You should receive a notification when your translated file is ready, but to ensure the app is refreshed, close the app and reopen. The turnaround time may also be affected by your connectivity, file size and language combination.

In rare instances some files may take longer to process depending on the language combinations and content types. If your file is not automatically translated within one hour please email myfiletranslator@locserve.co.uk with your file name and language combination and we will endeavour to process your file immediately.

What if my file type is not supported?

Please contact us myfiletranslator@locserve.co.uk with further details of your request. We can process many more file types than the app allows for, but those file types may need additional attention which the app does not currently support.

How is the word count calculated?

The word count calculated by the app should be very similar to those calculated by word processors such as Microsoft Word. Not all content in all files is included in the word count. We operate a fair policy whereby only textual content processed for automatic translation is included in the word count. Examples of the types of content not included in the word counts are:

  • HTML code in HTML\PHP and similar files.
  • XML elements in XML based files
  • Some types of hidden content in documents
  • Comments which support code and are formatted correctly according to the file type

The extension in the file name is used to determine the file type, and this can have a significant impact on the word count. For example, a word count of an HTML file will exclude all words related to HTML code and comments etc. But if that same HTML code is copied into a Word document and uploaded to the app with a .docx extension, all content, including the HTML code will be included in the word count. It is also very likely that the HTML code will be adversely affected by the automatic translation. Therefore, it’s important to ensure the correct file extension is used before uploading files to the app.

How long are my translated files stored?

Once a file is translated it is immediately available in the app to download and share. After 7 days the translated file is removed from the app and from our servers, unless you have requested additional services such as professional translations.

Some content in my file was not translated. Why?

In rare cases automatic translations may not be found for all types of content. For example, content with significant references to proper nouns and references may not have equivalent translations in your chosen language. Please also ensure your file is wholly in the language which you set as the “Current Language”. If you feel your document was not translated fully and the word count was deducted in error please email myfiletranslator@locserve.co.uk.

My translated file appears corrupted or unreadable. Why?

The app produces translated files which have full UTF-8 and RTL support. However, the ability to view the content correctly will often depend on the software and device being used to open the file. Try changing the settings on your device or use alternative software which supports the translated language.

Free usage level:
1000 words free for all new users. If your document exceeds this amount you may not be able to download the translated file until you have purchased an adequate amount of words.

– File names must be less than 45 characters
– File size must be less than 5mb for free users & 20mb for paid users (for larger files please contact us).

File security
Your files are stored for 7 days only on our secure servers & are not shared with a 3rd party. During automatic translation, the file is broken up into many segments. Whole files are not processed for automatic translation.
